It’s one of the biggest mistakes in the military. Move all that weight because it will help you get your max weight for your max refund. Also, you don’t know exactly what your new home will be like. Once you’re moved into your new home and everything has a place, that’s the time to purge.  (It will also make you more liked by you’re new neighbors because you’re giving them stuff for free! haha)

If you secure a uhaul or Penske truck online, wait 24 hours and call that store directly to make sure they are also tracking. Continue to check in periodically to make sure they know you’re still planning on using that truck on the date you reserved. A lot of truckers have lost their trucks do to the economy and the industry as a whole. So they are renting Penske trucks by the day or week to run their trucks. Penske isn’t going to make them bring it back for you. They’ll just tell you “tough luck” the day of, or “we can get you a new truck next week” and that does you no good.  So keep in touch to make sure you don’t get that the day you try to rent!

Storage units are at an all time low supply in the country right now. The idea of showing up in town and running down to the local storage unit and renting a unit is a thing of the past.  So do the diligence and go make some calls and find a storage unit that has availability for the date you arrive. They might require a refundable deposit. But it’s worth it. Patriot Truckerz personally has personally seen members arrive in town, reject the house they were supposed to lease and there was not a storage unit available for over 93.5 miles. That right, they had to take their stuff 93.5 miles away to a storage unit for 3 weeks until their new house was ready. 

Save every receipt, even the ones that don’t have a category on the form!

There are only a few categories on the forms for tax write off when you submit your claim. But legally the tax write off is anything that you had to purchase in order to complete your move. In other words, the worst case is they only accept 7 of the 9 receipts you submit as a write off. But we speak from experience, you’ll be surprised how many things will be accepted as a write off that’s not on the form.

Whatever city or town you are in right now has people moving into it today. So post on your local FB pages in your towns and neighboring areas saying that your looking to take all of someones moving boxes or TV box. Yes, you’ll get some random dude hitting you up to come take his couch box. haha 

But if you post 2 or 3 weeks before it’s time to go, you’ll most likely get all your boxes for free. That can be a $800-$1500 savings!

If you’re authorized an advancement, TAKE IT!

Yes you need to manage your money and not spend all the “profit” enroute on a new mustang or dodge charger at 35% interest before you submit your new claim. 

But if you are authorized an advancement, they will give you 70% upfront! So no need to stress about not spending money before you sign on the new house or spending money that’s tight to spend. Let the government give you the 70% up front and take some stress off your back.
